Union Raid

To the tune of “Union Maid”

There once was a union raid
That crossed the lines of trade
That the AFL had drawn so well
with contract language they had laid
But low membership and dues
made them say “No time to lose-
Competition is the game of the day
and we know how to play”

Chorus
There’s no solidarity, you’re in a trade union

You’re in a trade union

You’re in a trade union

There’s no solidarity, you’re in a trade union

And that trade union will cross the line

This union raid caused strife \
In each back there was a knife
Competition grew and anger flew
And accusations they were rife
When it came the time to strike
All the other crafts were like
“Go stuff your sign, what’s mine is mine
I’m here to cross your line”

Chorus

All you workers who wanna be free
Just take a tip from me
One union build, skilled and unskilled
Across your whole damn industry
Don’t divide yourselves by craft
And give bureaucrats the shaft
A pie card is the job police
So stuff their labor peace

Oh you can’t scare me, I’m sticking to the union
sticking to the union, sticking to the union
Oh you can’t scare me, I’m sticking to the union
‘Til the day I die.
